A liberal couple was interviewed near the National Mall and revealed exactly why they oppose President Trump’s plan to clean up and restore the Reflecting Pool. The man in the red shirt admitted the pool has serious problems — including an algae bloom every summer — but still slammed the project as a “$17 million vanity project” of an “egomaniac.”

Here’s the key exchange from the interview:
The man called the current state of the pool “hideous.” When asked about the makeover, he immediately pivoted to cost: “dollars are in it. A $17 million vanity project.”
He doubled down, saying it was “a vanity project” and “the vanity project of an egomaniac.” Even when pressed that the goal is simply to clean it up and make it beautiful again, he insisted, “This project is about him [Trump].”
His wife stood by nodding along as he added that even if the work itself is fine, “it’s still that he’s arrogant.”
The interviewer pointed out the obvious: there’s an algae bloom problem every summer, and the plan is to fix it. The man couldn’t deny the issues with the pool but still framed any improvement under Trump as pure ego and waste.
This is the same crowd that had no problem with massive spending under previous administrations, including Obama-era projects on the Mall. But when Trump wants to clean up a national landmark that’s been allowed to deteriorate, it suddenly becomes an outrageous “vanity project.”
Imagine being upset that someone wants to make one of America’s most iconic public spaces look better again. The real objection isn’t the money, the algae, or even the timeline. It’s that Donald Trump is the one doing it.
Liberals have reached the point where they’ll root against basic improvements to American landmarks and cities just to spite one man. That level of TDS isn’t just political disagreement anymore — it’s open hostility to anything that makes the country look better or function better under this administration.
The Reflecting Pool has needed real maintenance for years. Trump is actually moving to fix it. The only thing “hideous” here is the reflexive opposition to progress just because of who’s in charge.
