The fallout from the brutal mob attack at Cincinnati’s Jazz Festival has taken a dramatic new turn. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon has officially stepped in, blasting the racially charged assault and reminding Americans that federal hate crime laws protect everyone, not just select groups.
“Our federal hate crimes laws apply to ALL Americans,” Dhillon posted on X. “Nobody in our great nation should be the victim of such a crime, and where race is a motivation, federal law may apply.”
Her statement comes after graphic footage surfaced showing a white couple being beaten unconscious by a black mob in the middle of the street Friday night. The attackers appeared to revel in the violence, shouting encouragement as punches and kicks rained down on the victims. The man behind the camera even seemed to cheer the brutality.

Despite the horrific footage, no arrests have been made as of this writing, and the Cincinnati Police Department’s initial response was disappointingly vague, claiming only that a “verbal altercation” led to the violence.
Chief Terri Theetge condemned the incident, calling it “absolutely unacceptable,” but many Americans weren’t satisfied—and Dhillon’s involvement suggests the DOJ might not be either.
The pressure is now on city officials to treat this crime the same way they would if the races were reversed. In today’s divided climate, selective justice is no justice at all.
