Canadian PM Justin Trudeau says he had a “good” call with Trump after the president-elect vowed to slap 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico.
The comment comes as Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum also scrambled to contact Trump.
Trudeau not only said the call was good but said he was confident that the US and Canada could work together in “constructive ways.”
Trump is not even president yet and both Mexico and Canada are scrambling to get in line.
Trudeau has caved in record time to President-elect Donald Trump’s bold tariff ultimatum, scrambling to appease America’s incoming leader. Trump’s announcement of sweeping 25% tariffs on Canadian and Mexican goods sent shockwaves through the global economy, with Trudeau visibly shaken as he rushed to respond.
On Monday, Trump took to Truth Social, vowing to impose the tariffs on Day One of his administration until the illegal alien invasion and the fentanyl crisis were brought to an end. Trump called out Canada and Mexico, saying both nations “have the absolute right and power” to fix these crises, signaling he expects immediate action.
The decisive move left Trudeau scrambling to align with Trump’s demands, reportedly initiating emergency talks with his cabinet and border officials. Critics couldn’t help but point out Trudeau’s defeated demeanor during a late-night press conference, dubbing him “the face of a beaten man.”
In contrast, Trump’s forceful strategy underscores a new era of leadership, with America reasserting its dominance on the world stage. As one supporter aptly put it: “America. Is. Back.”
