Justice Served: Arkansas Sheriff Nominee Who Killed Teen Daughter’s Rapist Gets Huge Court Victory

A judge just delivered a powerful dose of common sense and justice in Arkansas.

The murder charge against Aaron Spencer, the Republican nominee for sheriff in Lonoke County, has been dismissed. Special Circuit Court Judge Ralph Wilson Jr. tossed the case Thursday afternoon, ruling that law enforcement’s conduct was so “egregious” it warranted full dismissal.

The key issue? Authorities somehow “lost” a dash camera memory card that may have captured the October 2024 shooting of 67-year-old Michael Fosler — the man accused of grooming and raping Spencer’s then-13-year-old daughter.

Spencer woke up in the middle of the night to discover his daughter missing. He tracked her down in the passenger seat of Fosler’s vehicle, forced the truck off the road, and shot the predator. Prosecutors tried to paint it as premeditated murder, claiming Spencer should have just called the police during the chase.

Spencer never denied pulling the trigger. He said he did what any father would do when the system failed to protect his child. He pleaded not guilty and turned the horror into motivation, launching a campaign for sheriff with the statement: “I’m the father who acted to protect his daughter when the system failed.”

He won the Republican primary in March and is heavily favored to win the general election in the conservative county east of Little Rock.

Spencer’s attorney, Erin Cassinelli, said it best: “No member of this family should ever again be forced to walk into a courtroom and relive this horror. This father should have never been charged for protecting his child.”

The dismissal means Spencer can now focus fully on becoming sheriff without the cloud of a trial hanging over him. In a sane world, this case should have never been brought in the first place. A father protecting his daughter from a known predator doesn’t deserve to be prosecuted — he deserves thanks.

Too often the justice system fails victims and then goes after the people forced to step up when it does. Not this time. The lost evidence and the judge’s strong ruling shut this down.

Aaron Spencer stood up for his daughter when it mattered most. Now the voters of Lonoke County have a chance to put a man with real courage and real-world experience in the sheriff’s office.

This is justice served.
