Air-traffic controllers in Jacksonville, Florida, reportedly walked out and left their positions in protest of mandated vaccinations on October 8, 2021 (Friday).
Is there a media blackout on last night’s air traffic controller walkout in Jacksonville, FL?
Hundreds of flights canceled.

A closer look of the internal message:
Approximately 650 flights in and out of the state of Florida were allegedly canceled affecting schedules till Saturday.
There seems to be a major air traffic control issue impacting a significant number of flights in/out of Florida.
Seems to be re: staffing at regional ATC ops in Jacksonville. @MCO has dozens of canceled flights. Awaiting word from @FAANews. pic.twitter.com/3ddKGcKXvU

Mainstream media blamed the flight cancellations on bad weather.
Travelers noted that the weather was just fine…
ATTENTION @SouthwestAir Myself @ a plane full of passengers on the 6:40pm flight 873 from @ATLairport to @FLLFlyer are PISSED! At first the flight was delayed until 7:25pm & then canceled due to weather but my Lady just sent me this video in Ft Lauderdale. What is the REAL issue! pic.twitter.com/k1VlWdpEuu

ALL flights into Florida have been canceled, per pilot.
The announcement was just made while on the tarmac.
Pilot told the full 737 @SouthwestAir flight that we now have to DEPLANE.
He said the Jacksonville air traffic control is “understaffed.”
Looks like I’m in AZ toight

Action News Jax hinted at staff shortages in addition to inclement weather:
Different airports in Florida experienced flight delays and cancellations on Friday due to bad weather and, in some cases, staff shortages.
According to the Federal Aviation Center, a Jacksonville facility needed additional staff for managing air traffic and did not resume normal operations until 10 p.m. on Friday.
The FAA released the following statement on Saturday regarding flight delays and cancelations.
“Due to a combination of severe weather, active military training in the airspace, and unexpected limited staff at the Jacksonville facility that handles high-altitude, en route traffic, the FAA took steps to safely manage air traffic the evening of Oct. 8. Normal operations returned at approximately 10 p.m.”
Other airports like Tampa International Airport had delays and cancelations due to bad weather.
An addendum from a local reporter. Bear in mind that this may have happened for reasons other than what you’d like them to be:
JUST IN: Source tells me “some controllers getting vaccinated and the mandatory (48) rest period required after controllers get the vaccine” led to staffing shortage at Jax ATC in Hilliard that resulted in mass flight delays/cancellations in Florida on Friday night @ActionNewsJax

But is there a media blackout on the real reason for the flight cancellations?
Unnamed sources claimed Jacksonville air traffic controllers staged a walkout over COVID-19 injection mandates.
