In Ireland she started a relationship with Ahmad Al-Saqar, a 28-year-old man from Jordan who had entered the country as an asylum seeker. The two were seen together at pro-Palestine protests. She wore a keffiyeh in some posts and seemed to be converting. For a while it looked like the life she had chosen was working out.
Then reality hit in the worst possible way. Jamey Carney was found beaten to death in her home in Killarney. Her own child discovered the body.

The prime suspect, Ahmad Al-Saqar, fled Ireland within hours of the killing. He took a bus from Killarney to Dublin and caught a flight to Istanbul, Turkey. Irish police, known as the Gardaí, believe he is now trying to make his way toward Jordan or Syria with help from contacts. They have upgraded the case to a murder investigation and are working with Interpol.
