We all know that our justice system is not working as it should especially when it comes to President Trump!
So maybe it’s a good news that Judge Richard Posner is putting down the gavel and picking up the golf club as he retires from the US 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Posner is one of the most consequential legal figures of recent times, exerting significant influence on the practice and study of law from his perches on the Seventh Circuit and the University of Chicago Law School faculty. Something of an intellectual gadfly, he has written 50 books, 500 academic articles!
President Ronald Reagan appointed Judge Posner to the bench on the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit back in 1981. Since then, he’s shifted further from the right.
Posner is a key judge who was appointed by President Reagan in 1981. Posner has written numerous books and penned articles on a wide range of subjects. He’s handed down over 3,000 legal opinions in his more than three decades as a judge.
Along with losing some of his conservative beliefs, Posner has embraced the conviction that the law is “fluid” and changes in context with a changing culture and “attitude.” Although he stood firm on the unconstitutionality of liberal-style gun control, Posner has shifted on various issues such as he now supports gay marriage.
Luckily, he’s now out the door.
This is a massive chance for President Trump to appoint a Constitution-loving conservative in Posner’s now-vacant seat on the federal appeals court in Chicago. Posner was a smart guy but he went a bit off the rails. Trump knows how to pick conservatives who stay on track.
Trump has shown excellent judgment on appointing judges in the past and was widely praised by conservatives for his appointment of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.
Now we just have to wait to find out who will end up being Trump’s new pick for the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Now it’s time to find a faithful Constitution supporter who won’t suddenly change stripes
